Hi,
I was wondering if it's possible to manually assign the IPs on my airport network even if my Base Station is doing DHCP (so that we can share one cable modem). I've tried manually setting the IPs above 10.0.1.50 like it says to, but then the computers can't access the internet. I think they can still get to the network, but no internet. It would really be great if I could know which computers had which IPs. Any advice?
Thanks,
gabe

If you manually assign IP's, then you also have to manually supply the IP addresses of your ISP's primary and secondary Domain Name Servers (DNS). These go on separate lines in the Domain Name Server box in the OS X Network Prefs pane, or in the Name Server Addr. box of the OS 9 TCP/IP control panel.

Ahh, how can I find out the domain name servers? These are so it can resolve google.com to whatever IP address it is?
Thanks,

If you manually assign IPs on your LAN, you must make sure you assign them from outside the range your ABS assigns DHCP addresses-this prevents two devices from having the same IP.
You can also set the IP of the ABS as your gateway, which should automatically give you DNS settings.
