I have a Dell laptop that runs Linux and have been using a wireless connection at a friend's house that has the older (I think "snow") base station, and the connection is fabulous and flawless. There is no encryption for this network.
Recently my roommate bought a AEBS with his new apple titanium ibook. He has flawless connectivity, of course, and again, we turned off encryption. We've set the settings exactly on the administration utility at our house as on the "snow" network mentioned above and I cannot get a DHCP lease on the Dell laptop. Also, the DHCP distribution option is (naturally) ON in the airport administration utility. On the Dell, I can see the network, i have a great signal-to-noise statistic and all that, but I can't get an IP address.
In fact, if I put a different (non-wireless LAN) card in the Dell and run a wired ethernet connection to the AEBS, I still canNOT get a DHCP lease. If I remove the AEBS and run a direct wired connection from the Dell to the cable modem, I get an address (dynamic) and a connection and no problems. Correspondingly, at my friend's house on the "snow" network, if I run a wired connection directly to the base station, I get an address with no problems. Hmmmm.
As a further note, I had my friend come over with his apple notebook and he was able to connect, getting an IP address without a problem. Is the base station doing something 'extreme' here? Any help would be much appreciated.
