I have 4 machines. Two are 15?? G4 PowerBooks, 1 a 15 FP iMac and the other is a B&W G3. Three of them are on a wireless network, the G3 is not. The company I got my DSL from said that I needed to have a static IP for at least one of the machines so I chose the G3, everything else runs DHCP off of Airport and a router. Do I really need to have a static IP address? My guess is not, and its just a way for Earthlink to get another 15.00 bucks a month from me! I would like to call and cancel this static IP charge but need to know if it screw thing up.
Thanks for your help in advance
Thomas

No, you don't need a static IP. You may violate one of their "rules" (I doubt this), but there would be no way for them to know about it. I've been thinking about springing for a static IP for other reasons, but there is certainly no need for it for general surfing/sharing.
Oh, and I'm on an Earthlink cable acct.

No, you do not need a static IP, nor multiple IP's, nor other BS that DSL/Cable companies often tell customers. They'll tell you that you need it because (take your pick):

They don't know jack about Mac's
They don't know what they're talking about
They're trying to sell you something you don't need
All you need is a good broadband router.
