Ok, I got my 2k server up and running in which I created a print queue for my HP Laserjet 4. The print queue sends the job via tcp/ip (jetdirect) to the LJ4. I have the queue shared and I'm able to print to the laserjet from my windows PCs. Currently, the 2k server is configured as a domain controller. I noticed that in most of the how-tos as the gimp print one that they specify workgroup. Would domain work just the same. For example: smb://winuser:password@workgroup/server/printer

In my case, I'm not using a workgroup but rather a domain. Anyway I tried a few different configs but when i try to print to it, i get this error "Unable to connect to SAMBA host, will retry in 60 seconds...: Undefined error: 0"
Device URI: smb://network/bilskysrv/HPLaserjet4

I am able to print from the Mac to the LJ by sending the job directly to the printer via ipp. My only reason to change it is so that all my computers print through the 2k queue. I've heard that recent software updates have broken smb printing. Is this true? I'm running 10.2.6. Any insights greatly appreciated.

It is indeed a problem with the SAMBA security update in 10.2.5 and .6. Follow the instructions here:

http://www.macwindows.com/jaguar.html#033103

to replace the offending files with their 10.2.4 versions. Fixed the problem for me.
