So, I have an Orinoco wireless access point (802.11b), that up until a few weeks ago was working very well. Lately though, the incoming transfers have gone to crap. Doing testing today, I tested with both a PC with a wireless card, and my TiBook (Rev D) in the same location. I used FTP to transfer a 20 MB file from the machines to my file server running Linux, using the FTP utilities included with OS X and Windows 2000. The averaged results were:
Code:
xxxxxxxxx| Mac | PC
-----------------------------
Outgoing | 300KB/s | 750KB/s
-----------------------------
Incoming | 15KB/s | 22KB/s
As you can see, I can send almost 20x faster than I can recieve from 2 different machines, on different OS's. The PC is faster as expected, due to the admittedly poor AirPort implementation on the TiBook.
Ever hear of anything that could cause this. I suspect the Orinoco WAP is the root of the problem. Before I go out and spend $60 on a new WAP, anybody have any ideas? Or recommendations on a WAP?
Thanks.
