Hi guys,

got a little problem. I have a wireless network at home with two PC's running XP resp. XP-Pro and an ibook running 10.2.6. I use the Airport Extreme Base Station (AEBS) as router for my broadband flatrate. The connection is reset after 24 hours which is done by the provider and is not the problem.
The problem starts when I try to reconnect to the provider.

1. with my ibook no issue. lick on the wireless icon on the task bar and click connect. done.

2. But what do I do with the PC's??? All I can do is reconnect them to the wireless network, but that does not build up the connection to the provider. Any ideas?

If anyone has a solution at hand, please help. Don't wanna use the ibook all the tiime just to build up the connection.

Thanx
M.

You don't mention what kind of broadband connection you have, so I'm going to guess it's DSL. Is that the case? I had the impression that AirPort software had added PPPoE login sometime recently, but that may not be the case. In any case, please post the kind of broadband connection you have, and how you have the PC's network settings configured, and we can go from there.

You're right.

Well I have DSL .
I have configured the AEBS to connect over PPPoE. As I said, it works fine when I connect from my ibook. I'm typing this reply on it.

The PC's use Acer USB Adaptors with the IP automatically automatically received from the AEBS (DHCP).
I have no problem using the connection with the PCs once it's established, but I don't seem to be able to initiate the connection to the provider.

The internet settings of the AEBS are:
Connect over PPPoE
Automatically connect
Never disconnect

Hope this helps

This may be null, but have you tried downloading the modem utilty for the base station for windows?

Take the Airport off automatic and use manual, it's safer. I hope this helps.

It sounds quite interesting and I dled it.

But even if this is the most stupid question you've ever heard: How do I use it? I can't open the java class files and honestly don't know what to do with them.

Thanks for the help.

Does this issue sound suspiciously like the original AirPort Base Station issue where it would only dial the modem if a Mac needed a connection? It does to me, but I can't remember what the resolution of that one was...

You need to go to www.sun.com and download the JAVA runtime for windows. I think it's at version 1.42. Once this is loaded you can execute the java code. This will bring up the appalet that allows you to start and stop the connection on the Airport.
