Seeing a big slowdown on my G4 800mhz iMac which has run perfectly since I got it 7 mo ago. An example of this slowdown is my wife?s 800mhz ibook G3 will open Appleworks in 2 bounces. My machine takes 31 bounces. This happens with most apps.

Two accounts and it happens in both accounts. Repaired permissions and ran diskwarrior. Trashed finder perfs with no help. Did an archive in install and it was of no help. Directory Access is set up with the default setup from the OS install. I thought trashing the finder prefs did the trick but the problem started again. Logging out and back in as well as a reboot help for a bit but then the problem returns.

Probably cause: Right before this started happening I networked this new imac and a rev. D imac by ethernet to a switch. Updated AEBS software and set up a new AEBS hooking the switch to the AEBS LAN port. Wife?s iBook has an airport card so it hits the network wirelessly while the 2 imacs use ethernet. Started file sharing on all machines with no firewall started. All works well for file sharing and the internet. It seems my machine (the new imac) is the only one with this problem. Removing the switch and connecting direct to the AEBS does not help. Machine start-up is also taking quite a bit longer than the slower machines with Directory Services and something about firewall slowing the start-up.

All machines running 10.2.6. The 333mhz G3 imac will run circles around the G4 imac with 5 times the RAM installed as things set now.

Thoughts or help appreciated......tia.....Rich
