Hi guys,

can anyone explain to me how to upload a router config file to a router via a unix terminal (telnet connection) to the router?

I have one ready to go and im connected to my router via telnet session, but I cant work out how to upload the file to it.

Also I want to actual REPLACE the existing config file with the new, not just add it, as the existing is causing some headaches and i think ive got the new one right.

Any assistance would be appreciated. Im running a unix terminal via my imac here, and wanting to upload the config file to my cisco 761m router.

Typically router configurations can be uploaded/downloaded via tftp, but the 700-series routers don't support tftp.

Instead, you have to use a telnet session and upload the config via that.

The easiest way to do this is to log into the router via telnet and issue the 'set default' command (this clears the current config) then simply drag and drop the new config into your terminal window.

The terminal will send the text just as if you'd typed it yourself (just quicker) and reconfigure the router accordingly.
