Can someone please help me?!? I'm up in the boondocks of Northen California trying to help my parents share their broadband connection from a PC to the Mac that I gave them. I've been struggling for days with no result. MacNN readers are the greatest, so I turn to you. Here's the deal.

I've got my stepfather's PC running WinXP. He's connected to a DirecWay (formerly DirecPC) USB modem which gets the internet via satellite. He's got an ethernet card to which I've directly (no hub, switcher) hooked up via crossover cable a Linksys WAP11 802.11b along with a Linksys Signal Booster.

Using the network wizard I've set up ICS (internet connection sharing).

On the Mac side I've got my old G4 450 running Jaguar with a fairly new Airport card. I've turned it on, set it to obtain I.P. via DHCP, find strongest available network, etc. I'm even running Mac Stumbler to search out a signal. So, far NOTHING. Not one bar of signal.

Now here's the kicker... for the purposes of setting it up the computers are in the same room. Something is obviously amiss. I know little about PCs and even less about wireless networking. Can somebody help? I have to leave in two days and all this work will have been for naught if I can't get them up and running.

Thanks in advance!

Eric

First off, can you log into the WAP11 to configure it? It has a default address of 192.168.1.250, so all you have to do is enter that in the PC's browser and see if you get a configuration screen. If so, see what kind of status it shows, and what other settings it's using. Also, for right now, disconnect the signal booster. You want as few complications as possible while you're setting things up.
