I'm looking to purchase an 802.11g wireless router for my new apartment, and what to make sure what I'm purchasing is going to be compatible w/ my 12" PB. I friend warned me to make sure the router I'm purchasing is compatible w/ AppleTalk, so I've been calling the tech support lines for the major wireless manufactures and asking them about that. So far Linksys, Belkin, D-Link, and Netgear all say NO, which leaves me wondering -- are any non-Apple base stations currently supporting AppleTalk? Also, what's the deal w/ AppleTalk -- I know next to nothing about it, and being so, can't know if its worth my trouble to find/pay extra for a router that supports it's use. Thanks for your help in advance!

I recommend if possible using an Apple base station.

First of all, AppleTalk does make things like printing VERY easy, but it is not mandatory on today's systems. I buy Asante products partially because they all bridge AT properly and fully supported it through their techs. Some D-Link products do actually support AT as well, and some have reported here recently that newer 802.11g Linksys routers do too (do a search in this forum). Of course if even their own techs don't know about this, it kinda makes you wonder... Also, what would be the harm in disabling a feature in a future update that was never even acknowledged by the manufacturer in the first place? This is about the extent of AT support (other than Apple) that I am aware of. I really like Asante products, and their AT support is a bonus that signifies, to me, that they are serious about supporting Mac users.
Apple's AEBSes are nice, but you can definitely spend less and get more functionality.
