Hello everyone! Im sorta new the to macs and I love everything about them but Im having a little difficult time with vpn (only problem Ive had).

Im current able to connect to my work VPN but im having one problem.. When VPN'ed to my work I want it to use my internet insted of my works. When I VPN I loose my internet. I called mac tech support and they really didnt even know what VPN was .

Heres my setup

Im connected directly (wired) to the white airport unit which is connected to the cable modem.

I talked to someone on the chat room the other day and they said go to Network Port Configurations and I should have my netwrok set to

Ethernet>airport>modem>bluetooth

problem is airport doesnt show up there it shows

eithernet>modem>bluetooth

Im going crazy trying to figure this out hehe. Any help would be great. I talked to my brother who knows nothing about macs but knows alot abotu networks and he said its a gateway issue and theres got to be a way to turn off shared gateways when vpn.

I found a getto way of doing it but heres how... Theres gotta be a different way

I type netstat -rn on terminal window before I connect and I grab to top number which is the gateway and write it down.

when I connect vpn to the office I type netstat -rn again and notice the gateway has changed...

So to fix this problem I connect to the vpn and the in terminal windows I type

sudo route change 0.0.0.0 XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX (The first gateway before I vpn'ed)

Anyone know of a better way than this?

----------------------------
I also tried a program called digitunnel.. It works fine with NAT disabled but then I have to reset the router everything I disconenct from VPN. The only reason it worked if becauseI had 5 ips too.. I rather stick to OSX than a 3rd party to do my router.

You would think there would be a way to do it without command line. I love my mac any everything but you have to admit this is pretty bad that this is the only solution. Windows has had the option for a long time

the problem lies in the fact that you are connecting to a microsoft vpn server... i am pretty sure you only have to do this on MS servers

Well as far As VPN goes settign it up to use your gateway or the VPN servers gateway is always on the clients side. Sorry to say but this is diffinatly not a MS problem.. Its definaly a mac problem. If I VPNed to a mac machine I would have to same problem.. Theres no option on Any VPN server that lets the server select weither to use the VPN gateway or There own gateway.. (But theres ways to block it).
