Hi all,

I'm having a problem with my powerbook and it's connection to my wireless router.

The problem appears when you try to browse websites. I regularly get server not found errors, and mail often doesn't connect properly. I've tried changiing everything I can on both the mac and the router but nothing works.

The strange thing is that when I plug into the router by cable and turn off the wireless, then it all works fine, suggesting that all my settings are correct.

I'm using a powerbook G4 running osx 10.2.6 and a netgear fm114p router.

Any suggestions to figure this out?

Thanks,

J.

It could be something as simple as the DNS server information not flowing through your base station to the wireless client. Is your base station in "bridge" mode, or is it set to "distribute IP addresses" in the Network tab of the Admin Utility. If "distribute..." is selected, unselect it and see if that changes things. I think it will.

Or, alternately, manually type in the DNS server addresses into your powerbook's TCP/IP setting. A lot of times the DHCP servers in these home/office routers don't broadcast DNS server info.

It's set to bridge mode, has been by default since I got it.

yep, I'd had the dns servers in the network tab since I set up the wireless. I've tried using other servers and no difference.

I get a nice fast ping from the servers using the terminal window.
