So I get my 814v2, plug it into the DSL and config the wireless function. The browser admin function is nice, if slow to update (apply) changes.

Just me and my PowerBook (10.2.6) w/Airport card. No problems wireless.

But the 814 WON'T work wired (as a switch?).

My ethernet port and cable are fine. I can unplug the 814 from the DSL modem and go back to direct and it's fine.

But, although the 814's panel lights indicate I'm plugged in, it just won't connect.

Hmmm. What am I missing?

edit to add: I suppose I should say, I've been through the install/set-up, config, reconfig, scream & yell, reconfig, re-install and config again about eight times.

Really, I'm not an idiot. I'm wondering if the switch (all 4 ports) is blown.

So Jim wakes from the nightmare and fixes his problem.

In my frustration I was setting it up using PPPoE instead of TCP/IP (ENet in Network prefs).

This would be WRONG. I think.

HOWEVER...I could swear this isn't how I had it working yesterday. (When I first got it on, I tried both wireless and wired. Both worked. Later, after adjusting the 802.11 security, the wired stopped working.)

But I thought I could use the"disconnect" (Internet Connect panel/app) when on wired before, and of course with this set-up you cannot. Am I imagining it? I don't want "always on. I'm second guessing myself now. Crap.

Jim, you're right, that was wrong, if you were configuring the computers to use PPPoE. Your router should be set to connect through the DSL router via PPPoE, but the computers connect to the router (and each other) via TCP/IP.

Yeah, it's been fine all morning. I still wonder if I was imagining what I described in that last paregraph.

I liked having the throughput bars so I can see what's happening. And I still don't like not being able to "disconnect".

I'm tempted to put back the paragraph I wrote saying the mods could delete this thread or leave it as an object lesson, and I would just slink off and re-reg with a new nic.
