I have Verizon, and a Motorola 120e cell phone.
I'd like to use it with my Tibook to dial into the net. I know there are some services which offer data by MB, but I'd be content (and prefer) to use my minutes, since it's unlimited nights and weekends. What data cable do I need to get to just say it's the modem, and dial out?
Are there any quirks I need to know about?
Thanks,
Scott

I'm sorry, I'm foreign and don't know what a Motorola 120e is. Does it have IR?
I have a Nokia, and found (counter-intuitively) that IR was more reliable than cable between the phone and the TiPB.

Well I have a Samsung A310 with Verizon, but I imagine the procedure is the same with your phone.
First of all you need the data cable... I got mine from Verizon although you can get them much cheaper usually from places online. Do a search for "Motorola 120e data cable".
When you connect the cable to the phone, and the cable to the computer, it should detect the phone as a new modem when you open Sys Prefs -> Networking.
If you're using the slow service (about 14.4) which uses just your minutes, then go into the PPP options and set up your login/password as follows:
Number to dial: #777
Login: vzw
Password: vzw
The Express Network (faster service) has a different login but the Verizon people can set you up with that if you ever choose to get it. It's very nice but it's expensive right now.
Actually - if you just signed up for service recent or if your contract runs out soon, you can resign and they now have this "minutes only use" plan for Express Network - so you can use the fast connection but not pay by the MB, only the minutes you use. Might want to call and check that out!
Oh and there are two files you'll need to place in your /Library/Modem Scripts directory. They're just two small text files. I can't find them online at the moment but I have them on my computer if you'd like me to email them to you.
Let me know if you need any other assistance.

I found it for $40, but it says nothing about mac compatibility.
Obviously the cable is just a cable, but will I have any problems setting it up?
I've only got 1.5 weeks until my flight leaves, which doesn't leave me with time to play.

Obviously, I can't guarantee that anything will definitely work, but just as an example...
The cable I bought came with the data kit from Verizon, and it most definitely not considered Mac compatible, as Verizon doesn't even support Mac OS. However, the cable works just fine.
Plug in the phone to the computer, open Sys Prefs -> Network, it should detect a new modem (mine is "Samsung CDMA") and you can set it up like any other modem from there.
As I said, you will need the modem scripts (let me know if you need those).
So yeah... can't guarantee anything since nothing is officially supported on the Mac, but it SHOULD work. It was pretty simple and flawless for me so I can't imagine you will have any major problems. What's the link for the cable you found?

Have you been out to BlueMobility.com yet? If you don't mind a new phone number, they can get you set up at faster than dial-up, over 750,000 square miles in the US. It's pretty cool. I hooked up my Sanyo 4900 and love it! My friend got a PCMCIA card and reports data speeds of 100Kbps at night and other off-peak times. It's true 3G wireless using the Qualcomm CDMA 2000 technologies. Check 'em out!

So did you decide to get the cable or go another route? How did it work?
