Ok, this may go under programming if there isn't a program already written. I want to access my home iMac from work. Here is what I know
  • I am behind a router.
  • I have the appropriate sharing controls turned on.
  • I have the router setup to forward the ports I want to my iMac.
  • I go to whatismyip.com to find my router's address.

How can I get the ip address of my router, either from the router or off of whatismyip.com, put it in a text file, and upload it to my server via ftp.

I know applescript can do this, but if its already written I won't need to write it myself.

I had the same idea, but wasn't able to do it for two reasons. 1) My internet provider(Comcast) doesn't give out Static IP Address. 2) DomainDiscover doesn't take IP address as DNS servers or as fowarders.

Just though I'd share my problem, and hopefully you won't have them!!

I am interested in this too... Getting the dynamic IP from my airport remotely.

You might want to take a look at dyndns.org. They have clients that look like that'll do the trick. I haven't had time to play.

What kind of ways can you access the router? I'd say this is a job for SNMP, but a lot of consumer gear doesn't support that.

On a sidenote, one of the reasons I bought my piece o' crap Hawking Tech wireless router was it had a dynamic DNS client built into it so I wouldn't have to kludge something together. Works great. Useless info for you but hey..............
