Hi there

I have just set up a wireless network and was wonderimg if there was an easy way to test the speed of the network. I have a 12" powerbook and the Wireless Access Point is a Netgear WG602. What would a good average be if the laptop is in the same room as the Access Point? The signal level bar in internet connect seems to sit between 2/3 and 3/4 even in the same room, is this ok/poor/good?

Thanks in advance for any help

Darren

How big is the room? Where is the acces point located(floor, desk, ceiling, etc.)? How far away are you?

I have a Linksys Router that when I am in front of my house sitting on the curb(don't remember why i was out there w/ my 12" AlBook) I get 3/4 bars or reception.

In any case 2/3-3/4 sounds a little bad for what you have set up...

Anybody else have any input??

Thanks Chad

The room is not that big, the AP is 2 metres away from the laptop and on the same level. I get full bars up in the menu bar, I am currently sat downstairs with the same reception strength (full bars). The 3/4 - 2/3rds refers to the signal strength indicator in the internet connect window, which is a solid bar.

I know it is practically impossible to achieve full 54mbs, having read a review where they were only getting 22mbs from the same AP, and considering that to be good, I guess 3/4 of total signal strength is not too bad. Would be nice to be able to measure it though.

The bar in Internet Connect is always funky like that. I've never seen a full signal there, even when the menu bar icon shows full and I'm 2' away.
