My buddy I just switched to the Mac has a dilemma.

How to setup up the following equipment:

Desktop PC with cable modem.

Laptop PC with 802.11B.

Powerbook 12" with 802.11B/G.

Airport Extreme Base Station.

AOL broadband via the cable modem.

The way I think it will work is if the Desktop PC is connected via ethernet to the AE Base Station (which is hooked up to the cable modem), then both laptops going wireless to the base station.

The AE Base Station says it works with AOL. We installed the AOL software on his Powerbook and can't get it to work. Does he really need to have all that junk AOL software on the Mac? I have never used AOL but from what I have seen he does.

Will AOL let 3 computers simultaneously surf?

Does anybody here have any experience with AOL and Airport?

Thanks!

This is the main question. Is he using the "AOL for Broadband" service, which is just an internet service that runs ON TOP OF your broadband connection? OR is he running AOL Broadband, which means the connection is supplied by AOL?

If it is the former then you want to set up the base station to work with the cable connection, and ignore AOL when you set it up. Then you set up the PC as you have it now and it should just work normally. The computers over airport won't be able to use AOL unless they have the AOL software installed.

If you have the latter then you're going to want to call AOL tech support (when prompted press the button for Mac support) and talk to them about it. My cousin who has AOL dialup had to call AOL for them to explain how to set up his base station to work with AOL.
