I am trying to get a PC on to a network of Macs (some OS9, some OSX) with a Netgear DG814 ADSL router. So far, I can browse internet OK, access the router and collect emails from the mail server (on the network). However, I'm having 2 big problems:

1. Enabling the PC to connect to the AppleShare IP Server (I have seen this achieved before)
2. Locating the network printer (HP Laserjet 8000N)

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm not familiar with this config, but is your PC connected wirelessly? And does this setup require AppleTalk to work properly? If yes to these, you're gonna have troubles. Most current routers do not pass AppleTalk from wired to wireless.

All machines on the network are connected via ethernet to a hub which in turn connects to the DG814.

I think the key to both problems lies in Windows "My Network Places" but so far, when I browse the network for eg. a printer, it doesn't turn anything up.

To start, I would try testing the setup without the hub in the mix. See if you can get things recognized like that. If so, try replacing the hub with a switch.

Thanks aaanorton for your advice and time.

I did a bit more research and found an application by Miramar called MacLAN ($39). I have installed a demo copy on the PC in question. It creates an AppleTalk network icon which shows all the Macs with Sharing activated on the network AND the printers. Problem solved (I hope).
