I just switched to a Mac. I have a Powerbook G4 with an Airport Extreme Card in it. My University has wireless internet on campus. The University tells me that you need a Cisco wireless internet card to use the networks. However, my Mac recognizes the wireless network but the network will not authenticate me. I thought that the Airport Extreme card worked with Cisco networks. I would greatly appreciate any help. The University is almost completely PC oriented. It is quite annoying.
The University is Old Dominion University.

You need a Cisco card because the school uses an authentication scheme called "LEAP." There was some discussion on this board a few months ago on the subject of using a Mac on a LEAP-authenticated network, but I can't recall the resolution. I think that LEAP is supported by the newest AirPort firmware, but I could be talking out my ear on that.

LEAP works fine using Apple Airport cards. I have a TiBook with the installed Airport card that I use on my corporate network and the APs are Cisco 1200s with LEAP authentication.

Currently they proxy to an Active Directory forest via RADIUS . When I log in I need to use a password sent like the following <username/password> and all works well. I can associate and pass traffic onto the wired network no sweat. (yes, the angle brackets are necessary).

Airport cards have been able to connect to LEAP enabled networks for awhile now. Here's the Apple Knowledge Base article.

After re-reading your post I noticed you have an Airport Extreme card. There may not be the same compatibility with those cards. I know the 802.11b Airports work fine with LEAP however.
