I'm a rookie so please be kind...

My home network consists of a graphite ABS bridged to my Lynksys BEFSR41 router (LAN wire connection) Desktop G3 is also connected directly to router, Pismo laptop works wirelessly with ABS acting as a bridge.

My wife has a new Toshiba Laptop with Wi-Fi Integrated wireless LAN built in. the Toshiba is receiving the ABS signal great...but the minute I try accessing the internet or email, It tells me that I don't have internet access. Tried all configurations I can think of with the PC laptop. Is the ABS simply not compatible with it? It's frustrating because it is receiving the signal great, but it doesn't work. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The PC laptop should be configured to connect to the Internet via a LAN connection. The usual problem with this sort of setup is that one or more computers that connect wirelessly try to connect through something other than the LAN.

You don't mention what kind of broadband connection you have, but I'll bet you have DSL and the Toshiba is trying to connect with a PPPoE dialer. With your setup, you are effectively connected directly to the Internet.

I have a cable internet service...so PPOE isn't an issue. And I didn't mention that the PC's operating system is XP Professional...and that the PC laptop works great when connected via LAN cable directly to the router.

When I access The "Wireless Network Connection Status" on the PC laptop... it tells me that the connection's status is Connected @ 11 Mps with a strong Signal Strength. When I click on the Support tab of this window, it tells me Internet Protocal (TCP/IP) information for Address type/IP Address/SubnetMark & Default Gateway are all unavailable.

I just checked on some other forums....and find that there are tons of people not have success with adding PC's to their ABS wireless network. I've already spent a LOT of hours researching and trying things...nothing seems to work. So...let me ask this question.

If I ditched my old graphite ABS and Linksys router...and picked up a LinkSys wireless router...would my problems go away? (wireless PC & Mac access to internet along with my G3 desktop hardwired)??? I've been happy with my old Linksys router....but Office Depot has a pretty good sale on Microsoft wireless base station routers ($40 after rebates)... would this unit do the same job that the Linksys wireless router?

I don't mind spending a few bucks if I get a simple solution... anyone have any recommendations?

I'm all for buying new computer stuff. It's fun! But you should be fine with what you have. Try turning off ALL security features on the ABS, like WEP encryption and MAC address filtering. Make sure the laptop is set to connect via DHCP. Make sure you have actually joined the network. You're probably overlooking something simple. 802.11b is 802.11b, there should be no compatibility issues.
I'd be careful about a Microsoft router. Will it require a Windows PC to set it up? There are A LOT of great, cheap routers out there. Microsoft would be my last choice for one.
