ADSL is Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line; download speed is faster than upload - hence asymmetric.

Get an ADSL modem router (I've got a Netgear DG814) and you'll be able to share the ADSL connection, and shunt files between your PC and your Mac - even share a printer. Setting up the modem/router is so simple it hurts; the interface is web browser based. Plug everything in, enter a few details (username, password, etc.) and away you go!
