I had wireless broadband up until about a year ago. That's when the company (Last Mile Access) went out of business. It was a 1-way wireless setup (512Kbps down, phone line send) that was mostly attractive to those that only had dialup access in their area (like me). But competition from 2-way broadband like DSL and CableTV pretty much sealed their fate closer to town. This company also sold 2-way broadband in other areas, just not mine
I really miss the wireless setup. For $39/month I had 512KB down (dial send) with a static IP and DHCP. It was a no brainer to set up for my Mac - just hook up a crossover ethernet cable and use automatic in OSX (or dynamic in OS9). It was also highly reliable and almost never went down. For hardware they put a small wire type antennae on my roof that was slightly larger but about the same oval shape as a dual LNB DSS dish. Then there was a small router and power supply near my computer. Actually, the damn thing is still on my roof. I keep hoping the company will regroup and bring wireless back - but with 2-way of course.........joe
