This is an informative post to inform others of the wierdness i experienced when i changed the connection type of my airport from Ethernet to Modem V90.

I had to do some speed testing on a website with a modem last night and figured that i'd finally try to use the modem in the AEBS to connect to the internet.

I went into my AAU and changed the connection to the network from Ethernet to Modem V90.

Once i hit apply, it said i had to check distribute IP in one of the other tabs within the utility. i have Distrubute IP addresses off because i use it as a enet bridge.

Once i clicked the checkbox, and clicked apply, the IP of the base station changed from my router addressed 192.168.1.xxx to a 10.1.x.x. I still had a connection to the internet (via Ethernet for some reason) but i was now locked out of my AUU appication.

Every time i tried to enter the password, it came back with an error:

"The Airport Admin Utility was unable to read the configuration of the selected base station. An error occurred whilr reading the configuration"

I Soft reset the AEBS and was able to change my password but still couldn't log in.....I hard reset my AEBS and with the new password 'public' i still couldn't log in.

After hitting the message boards someone recommended hard connecting an ethernet cable from my 17" PB to the Lan port of the AEBS.

i hard connected AEBS <--> PB and i was finally able to connect in into the AAU with the reset "public" password and was able to reset all my settings back to what was working earlier.

Long story short....Is this a bug, or did i put my AEBS outside the network so that the AAU could not to a loopback and read the config file?

I'm not really sure, but it's working again, and i still want to find out how to use the modem, i think i have my AEBS connected strangely....

I'll go with door 2, Bob... Ya, you just knocked your AEBS off the LAN by changing its subnet. This is a common problem. You can change your own IP to that of the AEBS to get back to it, but usually plugging an e'net cable in is the quickest solution.
