Is there a decent shareware/freeware app that I can use to monitor if a host, or list of hosts is pingable?

I have a dozen or so printer controller boxes (used for billing), and they tend to go deaf once and a while. I'd like a simple app that I can enter a list of hostnames and have it ping them every minute or so.

I've used Big Brother and Nagios for this purpose. They have a lot more functionality built in than just ping tests, but they can certainly do that. I have run the programs on Linux, but I'm fairly certain you could build BB4 on OS X. I'll have to look into that.

Intermapper is really good for this also and has been running on Mac OS since I can remember.
