Not sure if the topic title is entirely accurate, but I am hoping someone will understand the following and be able to offer some advice:
A friend lives in a rather spacious home and has this setup: cable modem connected to a Linksys BEFW11S4 (wireless, 4-port router). A Windows box is connected to the router through ethernet cable (it is close to the router) and then two different laptops that connect wirelessly (an Apple Powerbook with built-in 802.11b card and an HP laptop that has accesses via an 802.11b adapter card).
The wireless router is stationed at one end of the house and the signal is not strong enough to carry through to the other side for the laptop access - either very weak or drops entirely.
The array of products out there that state "wireless bridging" or "access point bridge" is rather confusing. Although cost is somewhat of an issue, my friend essentially wants to add another access point / router / extender / repeater to have good signal on the other side of the house without having to lay down ethernet cable. I have read that the Airport Base Extreme allows such wireless bridging, but I believe that you need two such stations to effectively set that up (current wireless Linksys router does not allow bridging).
So after all that description, I am hoping that someone can offer a (relatively simple) solution to enable wireless access throughout the house - even if the purchase of two new routers is necessary.
Thanks in advance for the help.
