I've moved to a rural area with no high speed connection. I'm looking into a Hughes DW4020 satellite connection. I'd like to share the cost with my neighbors and offer them a wireless connection. Is this practical? I'm unsure of the range of wi fi but I understand it can be extended by fucusing antennae. I'm not looking to extend ranges beyond three hundred feet. How far could I extend the range? Can someone recommend a book or web page describing what I'd like to accomplish? I'm not intending to make a profit, only reduce costs.

You'll definately need a AP base station, and a Dr. Bott ExtendAIR Direct Antenna or a Dr. Bott ExtendAIR Omni Antenna. The antenna you need depends on your situation, and you may need more than one.

If your neighbors all use macs, then it should be easy to set them up on your network, everything you need know is in Mac Help. If some of them use PC's, then you'll need to know how to join windows machines to a wireless network.
