Hi,
I have two Laptops here, a Targa Win98 10MBit and my Pismo 10/100MBit. Both connected to a 10/100 hub. I couldn't get the machines to ping each other, nor does StarCraft multiplayer (longer) working. When I set MacOS to DHCP I get my IPs, both machines tested to work with a DSL-connection, every piece of hardware seems to be working, but no longer together... :-(
Any ideas please?
PB.

So you have a DSL modem, a mac laptop, and a wintel laptop, all on a hub. I'm assuming you are using all straight-throug ethernet cables, as opposed to cross-over cables? Also, what IP is each machine pulling when set to DHCP? Have you purchased an additional IP for your DSL service?: If not, either get a router or buy another IP. Answer these questions and ye shall be redeemed.
Oh yeah, OSes also, please.

If you are truly using an hub rather than some kind of switch, I think your DSL provider has stopped providing you with more than one IP address. To fix this, you need some kind of cable/DSL router. The router gets an IP from the DSL modem, and shares it between the local computers. It will assign different, local, non-routable IP addresses to the computers, so they will be able to talk together, ping each other, etc. You may need to play with the settings to make Starcraft work online, but the computers should be able to play head-to-head without any extra fiddling.
