I was given a laserjet 5n with a jetdirect card, fully functional, but when i try to connect using ip printing (os x 10.2.6) the connection times out - i'm using the ip address specified by the printer fron the config print out.

any ideas as to what i'm doing wrong?

What are you using for the Queue name? Try lp (lowercase LP).

Have you setup gimp print, as the 5n doesn't have postscript by default, and you'll need the correct drivers.

If you continue with problems, let me know, I have a 5n set up the way you have until the jetdirect card died. I currently have it set up through the print server of my router, but I'm looking for a cheap network card on ebay at the moment.

I'm just off to work, but will look at my queue more closely later if you need.

Is Gimp Print going to work with Panther? Right now we have a 5N sitting in the basement but the problem is that all the macs are networked through a 802.11b network.
I could hard wire my Mac to a hub and then the Laserjet to the hub as well but I don't want to go to all that trouble if GP won't work out for me in anything higher than Jag.
