I am setting up a firewall on my mac and i only want the ports open that need to be. but the problem is that i am unsure of what needs to be open. is there a program for classic or X that i can use to tell me or a good website that spells out what the port number and info about that specific port.

ex. 80: HTTP
21: FTP

i know there are many out there, but any help would be useful.

Look here for a pretty comprehensive list. That's the good news. The bad news is that the list is quite comprehensive, so you'll have to kind of wade through it to get the information you need.

The final good news is that if you accidentally leave closed a port you need open, some application or other will complain about it, usually by telling you "I need Port XX open!" in an error message.
