ok, somebody told me that any router can work with your Mac, because youre only using your ethernet cable configuration, so I say "what the heck!" and went to Comp Usa and buy a wireless router and a PCIMWHATEVER card for my powerbook, ok, I connect the Ethernet modem to the router and then the router to the PowerMac, and all the leds of the router start blinking like a christmas tree and nothing happens, then I disconnect everything and put everything the way it was, and everythings perfect!, so Why I can make this work, Why when I connect the wireless router a pop up window says it can find a ppp server?? it does when nothing its connected!

for your information this is the router brand:
SMC BARRICADE model: SMC7004VWBR

the guy of Comp Usa told me it may work, but nothing happens!

Step one) Read the manual.
Since you are setting up wireless, make sure you read up on all the security features. And use them.

The router will work fine for the powermac.
The PC card for the laptop will need drivers, then it too will work fine.

I am connecting to the internet via PPPoE, and the intructions are based on a DHCP network, and I am afraid of messing up the network preferences, also it is made for OS9 and there is nothing for OSX, but the salesman told me that it will work with my PowerMac g4...

any ideas?

Your problem is that you aren't following the instructions in the manual.
It says to change your network settings to DHCP.
So make a new network profile, and set it up for ethernet and DHCP.
Then follow the instructions for how to set it up.

i assume you're using dsl, and i've only used cable, but if scott's advice doesn't work, try unplugging your dsl gateway for at least 30 seconds and trying again. my cable modem only allows one computer to connect, but it forgets which computer when it's been unplugged for a bit.

OK I did it!!!!!, thanxs for all your help, and if someone else have this same problem let me tell you how I did it:

What I wanted to do:
Have wireless internet on my old Powerbook 3400c via my PowerMac Dual MDD G4

What the "Comp USA Mac Expert" says:
"if you dont have a new powerbook G4 or a brand new iBook you can't do s***! seriously."

The solution:

1) ask for help on Macnn.Com, it works!

2) then buy any wireless DSL router (don't have to be mac compatible) any brand will work don't listen to "Comp USA Mac geniuses"

3) Connect the DSL cable from your DSL modem to the new router and then connect the router to your Mac with another DSL cable to the ethernet port of your Mac. done? great.

4) check your intructions, and if it says to change your network settings to DHCP do it.
if not, don't do anything...

5) open your internet browser and type the router IP ADDRESS (if you don't know the number, check the instructions book) and you will be making contact with the router,

6) check for internet right away, just to see if you browse the net with the router working. if so, your in!!!

7) buy any wireless PC card, that fits your powerbook (type 1 or 2) and check if your TCP/IP settings (of the PB) have your PC card like a connection option, if not, download a universal driver from macsense.com, install the driver and thats it! you will be browsing the net without any cables on your old PB!!!

Do you want a better way? A very Mac friendly way? buy everything at macsense.com and you will not have any problems since the begining.

All this are instructions for people like me, that don't have any mac store across the street or don't have enough money to buy on the net. so, if you just have a best buy or a comp usa close to your home. follow my instructions and you will be happy.

thanxs to y'all

and I hope someone get any help today!
