Hi,

Hope someone can help me with this rather frustrating problem I am having - I really need to get some work done :

I am trying to access and edit files on a samba share we have on our network from my Mac but I can't seem to get the access rights I need to edit any files.

I have tried connecting to the share using both the finder and the mount_smbfs UNIX command but both only give me read access.

I have a user account on the smb server that has a username that matches the short name (username) on my mac and the files I am trying to edit on the smb share are owned by me and in the same group as me but whatever I do I can't edit the files (BBEdit throws a -5000 error at me) and I cannot chmod the files on the share either (get no error - but the permissions don't get changed).

When using the mount_smbfs command to mount a share to ~/mnt/[SHARENAME] I have tried supplying the -u option with either my local user id or the user id of my account on the remote server but this hasn't helped.

Any help on this somewhat perplexing problem would be greatly appreciated!!

PS eMac: 10.2.6 - smb Server: FreeBSD 4.8 release running Samba 2.2.8

Hmmm, it turns out that the changes do get saved to the server when saving in BBEdit, only BBEdit doesn't believe it and complains with error -5000.
But only some of the time and I can't see any obvious correlation between the files it doesn't have a problem with and the one it does

Ideas anyone?
