I travel frequently with my iBook. On a recent long trip to Turkey, I was able to hook up at most internet cafes and see the net with DHCP simply assinging me an IP.

A few cafes in more remote areas have only a single IP that is shared among several Windows machines. In these places, OS X created a "self-assigned" IP which obviously did not work and I couldn't see the net.

Is there any way to have OS X work with a Windows network where are the 'puters are sharing the same IP?

Thanks,

Trygve

I would bet that all of the places you go to only have one IP and use a DHCP router to assign IP addresses... (great for surfing etc.)

The other places probably use some windows only software to make sure that you are paying...
