Hi, I need some help with Airport.

Whenever I turn on my ibook it connects to the nearest wifi connection automatically. Usually it is a useless Peer-to-peer network at the school across the street that doesnt give out ip's so thats ok, i dont care, im not really on their network. But when that one is down it connects to the next strongest one which is unencrypted and gives out DHCP addresses!! When my ibook first connect too it I said to myself "this is nuts, it cant be reading this right", but when I opened Safari to check it whent to a web page!! I turned airport off but how can i stop the ibook from logging into these? Technically I know I shouldnt be on that network but i cant get the computer to NOT connect to it. I don't use the connection at all but i would prefer not to log into it in the first place, I dont want to get into any trouble, is there any way to shut the auto connect off?

If i knew his/her number i would call them and tell them to stop giving out DHCP addresses, its pretty sad when ppl have to shut off their comps in order NOT to connect to you.

Open System Preferences, and go to the Netowrk pane. Select Airport in the "Show:" pull-down. Go to the Airport tab. There are some buttons there such as "Join network with best signal" and "Join a specific network". Check the one most appropriate to your desires.

(Aside: It's hard to believe someone has a network open on/near campus and doesn't expect students/passers-by to access their network. They are either generous or stupid; I choose to believe the best in people
