I went to the Apple Store the other day, and also in reading apple.com, and everything says that it can ONLY bridge from another Airport Extreme Base Station.

WHY????

I'm going to be moving into a standalone cottage about 100 feet away from the main house, which will have a wireless access point. If the AEBS bridged from a normal access point, it would be the perfect solution for me!! Anybody know if it bridges from a non-extreme station, or if there's a way you can do it?

Thanks!

Jason

Depending on the brand and model of the access point in the house, you may be able to find what you want without spending as much as the AEBS will cost you. Linksys makes a product called the WET11, which is a wireless bridge-it's perfect for wirelessly bridging 802.11b networks. They have one that does the same for 802.11g called the WET54G. Both can be found for about $100 if you shop around for them. Some wireless access points will act as bridges when used with like items. The later Linksys WAP11s do this, and I think their WRT54G does as well.

Remember, AirPort is only Apple's brand name for 802.11b/g wireless networking; you don't need to stick with Apple if their products don't do what you need.
