Here's a weird one that I knew how to deal with on OS 9 but haven't a clue in X.
I use a PowerBook that travels between home and office and hooks into an AirPort net at home and at work I log into our Server farm via ethernet for access to client files.
When I fail to drag the server icon off the desktop before leaving the office network - I just put the machine to sleep, stick it in my briefcase and take off, the next time I open the lid I get the spinning pinwheel and the Finder acts like it's working away to locate the still on my desktop server.
Problem is, this takes longer and longer every time. It's now up to several minutes before it tells me it the server is not available and allows me to do anything Finder related - like access my harddrive. The same delay happens if I'm not hooking into a network, just out and try to get the machine to wake up - Everything comes up- I can even open other programs. I just access anything on the drive or the desktop.
In 9, there was a cache you could clean out and disable so that it would cancel the server search. Anything like that in X? You had to hook up manually, but that's a lot quicker than a ten-fifteen minute wait for access.
Thanks for any help guys.
