At least once a week I would take my trusty powerbook and get
a cup of coffee at the Starbucks in the mall, which happened
to be next to the Apple Store. Yesterday, when I made
my weekly trek to the starbucks for coffee and browsing the
web, I was unable to get to the web. I was getting
a good signal, the SSID was being received and I was getting
an IP address. But was I attempted to launch a web page
I got the dreaded could not open page error message.

So what have they done??? Please help. I guess I could go
over to the store and ask

Did you reboot? Did it happen again when you came back later in the week?

They very well could have been having network trouble.
