I am having trouble at an elementary school with 8 original airports located fairly evenly throughout the building. The 16 iBooks with original airport cards are in a cart. There is an airport in each room and one in each adjacent room so there should be lots of overlap. I have tried to have each adjacent unit at least three channels different than any right next door and have the number of airports set to "high" in the settings as recommended. When the students try to log on the first seven or eight up work fine and any others cannot connect to the server. We are using Macmanager ( I know…) and Login times out when looking for the server. I tested this myself and found that I could get several to connect via an adjacent base station with seven or eight on the one in the room but by myself it is hard to simulate ten or fifteen kids logging on simultaneously. I was under the impression that they would jump pretty easily if they went below a threshold speed. The adjacent basestations are no more than 75' away albeit behind cinderblocks and some pipes and wires, but some are closer more like twenty or thirty feet. I think that they are all trying toc onnect via the closest one. Can airport client software jump to another basestation while Login is searching for a server perhaps? I'm feeling stupid, it seems that they should all settle in find a good connection and work great even for 802.11b. any ideas?

Unfortunately, the original ABS, with the original firmware, supported a maximum of ten clients at a time. I don't know if that limitation was lifted in later firmware, but I never heard of a change to that. It might help to update the firmware on one or two of the ABSs to see if that helps... Just a shot in the dark, but I think it's headed in the right direction.

Good luck.
