Hi all. I have a question about wireless printing via the Airport Extreme. When I send a print job to the printer via Airport Extreme, will my printer automatically "turn on"? If I'm printing via USB or parellel cable, then my HP printer automatically turns on and prints my job. Is the same true using Airport Extreme? Thanks!!!

Unfortunately, no. You must leave your printer on constantly or turn in on when you want to print. At least that's the deal with my Epson 880. Perhaps other printers have the auto-on feature but I've not heard of it.

My Canon 950 printer is turned on wirelessly by my AE Base Station when I send a print job to it--then after a time, it turns itself off.

There was a setting in the Canon drivers to allow this. It works great!

I think your HP printer "wakes up" rather than "turns on." Most HP printers have what's called a "powersave mode" which looks very much like the printer is off; it isn't. It's looking for traffic to print, and just waits for the proper attention signal from the computer (or print server) to start.

My feeling is that if a printer will "wake up" when connected to a computer, it will "wake up" when connected to an AEBS.
