I hope this is not a stupid question, but this is really baffling me.

All of the sudden, I am losing my PPPoE connection whenver I leave the computer idle for an hour or so. The reason I suspect it is the base station is because I lose the network, and I have to restart the base station, before my iMac will reconnect to it or even see it in the admin utility. I have upgraded the software in the ABS to the latest version (don't remember it off the top of my head).

Is this a base station problem? Is this a DSL modem problem? The connection never cuts out while I am actively surfing.

Thanks.

Your ISP probably automatically disconnects your PPPoE when it detects extended inactivity. When you restart your base station, it reconnects your DSL.

Go to the Internet tab in your Airport Admin Utility and click the checkbox for "Always Stay Connected." This will make either your wireless client or the base station tell the modem that there is some activity, even when you're not actively surfing. In other maker's systems this option is called "Keep Alive."
