Hey guys, we've got a sprawling three-story house with three PBs (all with 802.11b - not g) that like to roam. I think our old graphite ABS is giving up ghost. Besides I like the idea of attaching an antenna to ABS to extend the range of a solid internet connection.
Note: we do NOT expect to get everybody upgraded to be able to benefit from Extreme (802.11g).
Is everyone still having trouble with dropped Internet connection using ABS Extreme? If so: forget that option (couldn't take advantage of Extreme on our 802.11b network anyway). Maybe I'd be better trying to get a used Snow ABS and a QuickerTek ( http://www.quickertek.com/bsspecs.html ) omnidirectional antenna?
I know other wireless providers seem to have better signal strength right out of box, but I'd rather stick with ABS/Apple supported products for ease if possible. Suggestions? Sources for USED snow ABS?

On a related strategy...
I can't attach ANY additional antenna to Graphite ABS because it uses a STUB antenna Wave Lan card.
Is it possible to replace stub-antenna Wave Lan in the ABS with an Apple Airport 802.11b (got an extra around!) so that I can use the QuickerTek extender antenna? Should that Airport card be interchangeable with Wave Lan? Apple Airport Software be able to configure it? (Or do I have to be the first one to try it?)

Have you considered using another base station as an access point.
I picked up a netgear wireless router for $30 and use it as a second access point in our house, which gives us much better coverage.
Might be an idea for you, and cheaper than most other options

Interesting, attractive idea...
I don't know anything about the process. Does a second access point have to be hard-wired into network? Or just programmed to connect with the ABS?
(a bit of a diagram would be helpful for a newbie to understand which station has to connect to cable modem, how the stations connect to each other, etc)

SANITY ASSASSIN:
Hi, I've just got my new TiBook - and loving it. I got an old ABS along with it - and that's very cool with cable modem. But I may need to look into that whip antenna for the Tibook.
What I'd really like to try is the $30 Netgear solution (after rebate)! But I don't understand what I'll have to do set up two access points from same cable modem. Would I have to use an ethernet hardwire out of one of the Netgear ports to go into the Airport? Or is there a WIRELESS way to have one repeat from the other - that would be MOST excellent.
Can anyone help me understand the strategies required for setting up second access point off same cable modem (for example for a Netgear + ABS(graphite) network) ?
