Hi all - was referred to this forum recently. Looks like a welath of information!

We have an original model G4 with OS 9 and want to get it on a gigabit network. What cards will work? The PCs currently hooked up to the gigabit switch use Intel Gigabit cards, similar to (if not the same as) this one here:

Would this work? Newegg has a section for macs, but all of the network adapters listed are identical to the ones on the PC section.

Unfortunately, upgrading the OS is not an option - off the top of my head, I think its 9.0.1. Its all hooked up to an Avid system, and upgrading the OS means upgrading the Avid software as well.

Thanks in advance...

You should be able to find a useable product at Macworld.com

thx for the link. I've found only TWO gigabit ethernet cards that have MacOS attached to the 'specs' listings:

Asante - http://www.asante.com/products/adapters/1032TA/
Stallion GT - http://www.teamasa.com/

Anyone know of any other models? These are both well over twice the cost of most gigabit ethernet cards.

BUMP - can anyone recommend any other brands other than the two I've listed? I have yet to 1) find either of these cards in stock anywhere, and 2) they're twice as much in cost as all other brands of gigabit cards.

The price premium is most likely because the two you found say loud and clear that they support Mac OS. That seems to drive a big premium in just about anything.

Do you really need gigabit, or will really solid 100BaseT do the job for you? There are a lot more 10/100 cards that support Mac OS, and the prices are a lot lower too.
