setup:

- airport base snow with dsl (dynamic ip by isp)
- 2 powerbooks titanium g4 with airport
- panther 10.3

anyone knows how i get my mac working with a manual address instead of normal dhcp?

for instance i want 10.0.1.201 as my ip forever and after i set everything nothing works?

no subnet! no router!

with the normal dhcp setup everything works.

any ideas?

Just set it to Configure > Manually. Then enter the IP, router and subnet stuff. You'll also need to enter the DNS info for your ISP. If you don't know this, just use your router's IP.

i know...

but i wanted dynamic distributed dns - that's impossible with manually!

and why is this option there, when it's useless?

I don't think you'd get DNSes with Using DHCP with manual address either.
