I am leaning towards purchasing a wireless router and would appreciate any and all feedback. I've been comparing the routers made by Netgear and D-Link, but I'm so new to this, I really don't know how to evaluate them. Does anyone think that one of the companies has an edge on the other? Reasons? Are there other companies you would recommend? Reasons?

One other question, I have a 15" TiBook, so my AirPort card is the older one (as opposed to the newer AirPort Extreme cards). Am I looking for a wireless router that is compatible with 802.11b?

Thanks

They are virtually ALL going to work with an 802.11b-standards card, since 802.11g is backward compatible.

I've been watching these forums for a while as I contemplate a replacement for my Graphite ABS, and Linksys, D-Link, NetGear all seem to do fine (fewer of the set-up problems via a Mac than in previous years). I can hardly believe the $30 NetGear (after $20 rebate) that's mentioned in a couple thread. But that's certainly a price that makes it easy to recover from the purchase if you conclude it's a mistake.

PS: A friend took step of selling his airport card out of his Tibook to fund the purchase of a PC Card he could slide into his external slot - and has has gotten beyond the TiBook's signal problems for a $0 net cost. I took the route of getting the TiBook external whip antenna - which now gives my TiBook the type of reception it SHOUD have had in the first place. Good luck!
