Hi All,

I just bought an iBook and I want to create a network with my desktop. I have a router (belkin) that connects them both to the internet.

Can I use this router to set up a network? And if so, how?

I've been searching the Apple site and can't find any answers.

Thanks.

You already have. Now just enable file sharing and connect. Post back w/ more details on your setup/OSes for more info.

Sorry to sound like a dummy, but...

How do I enable sharing?

Are both your computers Macs? Are they running OS X, OS 9, or what?

Go to System Preferences, in your Dock or under the Apple menu.
Click on Sharing.
Check the box for Personal File Sharing.
Click on Firewall.
If firewall is running, make sure that the Personal File Sharing box is checked there too, to allow sharing through the firewall.
If it's not running, nothing there matters.
Quit.
Do this on both computers.
Click on your desktop or Finder in the Dock.
Press command (Apple) + K or select Connect to Server from the Go menu.
Now a window will open listing available computers to connect with.
Click on the one you want to share with and click Connect.
Either enter the user name and password for the other machine or use Guest.
If you use Guest, you will have limited access to files.
If you enter a user name and pass, you will have full access to whatever files that user has access to.

An icon will appear on your desktop. Dbl click it. It will have the contents you specified during log in.

Let us know if you have any problems.

EDIT:
I just noticed you listed 10.3. It's all basically the same for Panther, but a little different too. You will probably get it, but if not, post back.

You might want to read this article. Apparently new Belkin routers will now send random web requests to their registration page for a "parental control" product.

Thanks for all of your help. For some reason this works perfectly well on the machine running 10.2 but not on the computer running 10.3.

It mounts for the computer using 10.2.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

There's a button in the Belkin router setup screen that disables the parental control screen.

I can connect my laptop to my e-mac easily enough, but if the e-mac goes to sleep, then the laptop hangs in the finder and is just a mess.

Is there a fix to that rather than rebooting multiple times?

Thanks.

The best fix is to wake the sleeping computer.
Not compatible with Windows
