Screw those hippy-like cables. I'm going to get me some wireless action.

So, I want to buy this router.

And, when I get my new eMac (when they release new models), I shall stick an Airport Extreme card inside of it. And the other people in my house can have the choice of getting 802.11g cards for their PCs / iMacs or doing their own thing with the cables.

However, until I get a new eMac, I'm planning on borrowing the 802.11b AirPort card in my girlfriend's brother's PowerBook (he never uses it anyway) and putting it in my girlfriend's iBook.

Will this work?

I have read some bad things about compatibility between 802.11g and 802.11b, and would like to be aware of any issues, especially since one of my flatmates has an old snow iMac, one which can only accept a 802.11b card.

Thanks,
Simon

To follow up on daimoni.
My network supports 5 Macs of varoius types.

2 are hooked via wires to 10/100 Linksys router and 3 are hooked to an AEBS. My 12inch PB has the 802.11g card AE card while the iBook and 1 iMac has the 802.11b AP in it.

I have had no problems with the system since I set it up about 3 months ago.

Beware that if one of your housemates decides to use an 802.11b card then the whole wireless system will slow down to b speeds. While I don't find that this is a problem I know some who would.

What kind of crazy jibba jabba is that? Is that only true of Apple's own AirPort Extreme Base Station or with any 802.11g wireless router?
