Sonnet brings 802.11g to PCI Macs
By David Schloss

Sonnet Technologies has announced the Aria extreme PCI, an 802.11g wireless networking card for any Macintosh computer running at least Mac OS X 10.2.6 and Airport driver 3.1. Sonnet also claims support for the card on discontinued Mac models and clones, including models from Power Computing, Mactell, Daystar and Umax. Windows drivers are available for the card as well.

802.11g is the networking standard Apple calls "Airport Extreme" and it provides data transfer speeds up to a theoretical 54 Mbps, nearly five times faster than 802.11b, the standard that is called Airport. In addition to faster speeds, 802.11g is backward compatible with 802.11b devices.

The Aria extreme PCI card has a retail price of $99.95 and will be available beginning November 25th.
