I'm new to Macs and networks. I'm trying to setup a network between my PB and my wife's PB. I followed the directions for setting up file sharing.
When asked for the password on *both* computers, our passwords didn't work ("log in failed").
Any ideas?

So I know what you are doing. When you tried to access her computer, did you use her log on and password or yours? If you are logging on to here then you need to use her log and PW. Are you both set up as users on both computers? If so then you should be able to log on using your own Log and PW.

We're not both set-up as users on both computers.
We both have the same password, and the login username was pre-filled, so I assumed that part of correct.

The system will fill in the username of the *current* user on the machine you are working on. That is, it will supply the username of the account with which you are logged in, not the target username on the remote machine.
You will need the username and password o the account on the *remote* machine that you would like to log in to.

Ah, that would explain it. Thanks. I'll give it a shot!
