Hi,

I have 5 static IP addresses with my DSL service.

On one of the static IPs, I have my small home business networked using a linksys router. (hereinafter Router 1) The Router 1 IP address is 192.168.1.1 and subnet mask is 255.255.255.0. Router 1 is mapped to one of my static IPs (63.xx.xx.01).

Currently Router 1 is used for all the devices on the wired ethernet network (comptuers, printers) and is working.

I just got a Linksys Wifi Router (Hereinafter Router 2). I want to configure it to a different static IP address and thus isolate it from the Router 1 network. However, the default configuration for Router 2 is also 192.168.1.1 with a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0.
Router 2 will be assisgned to static IP (63.xx.xx.02)

How do I make this work?

Is it simply a matter of changing the Router 2 device IP to something other than 192.168.1.1? i.e. 192.168.2.1

Do I need to change the subnet mask?

I need to do this so that I can share the DSL wifi signal with my tenants but want to keep them off my home business network for security reasons.

Yes. That should work. No, don't change the subnet mask

P.S. Don't forget also to change the range used by the DHCP server on the second LinkSys to 192.168.2.100 to 192.168.2.150

Filmo,
I don't think you have to do anything, but make sure that the tenants connect to router 2 either physically or wirelessly.

The routers should not be "aware" of each other even if they are on the same WAN (i.e. 63.x.x.x), but the LAN side of both will not be shared so you can use 192.168.1.x and keep the subnet at 255.255.255.0 on both. Kinda like how other DSL customers on the same subnet should not be able to look into your LAN because of NAT/firewall. You are plugging in each WAN side of the Linksys to a switch that has the DSL modem on it correct?

I will try to pictograph this:

LAN1<->NAT(ROUTER1)<->WAN(63.x.x.y)
---------------------------------------
LAN2<->NAT(ROUTER2)<->WAN(63.x.x.z)

p.s. you have 5 static IPs? aren't you paying for each?
