I have just tried to expand my home network and bought a second netgear router and wireless access point. The cable entrance to the house and router1 is in the basement and there's an cat5 cable that goes upstairs to the office where I installed the router2(w/ wireless AP).

The external lights on both the routers show a good connection, however any of the computers on router2 can't get an internet connection. They are recieving IP addresses from the DHCP server, but don't seem to be able to look up domains. I messed with all the settings, but could find no solution and don't know what to search for to dig up the right answer. Anyone have an anser?

it would be cheaper if you just want to get a hub or a switch because you dont really need the second router... if you just want two routers then i would suggest manually assigning the ip address to router2 along with setting up the dns addresses... you should also but the assigned ip addresses from router2 on a separate subnet...

all in all, it would be easier and more cost efficient to just go trade teh router for a switch

You have to set up the second router as a bridge. Connect the first router to one of the 4 regular ports of the second router, not to the WAN port. Turn off the DCHP server on the second router. Change the LAN IP address of the second router to a number one higher than the LAN address of the first router. ie. if the first router is 192.168.0.1, make the second one 192.168.0.2. This will also change the address of the admin program for that router correspondingly.

Use the same SSID for both routers, but change them to different channels well apart in number.
