I need to connect to my office VPN with Panther. I've set things up on the office XP box, and can get a VPN connection. If I'm connected directly to the LAN, the internal IP range is 192.168.0.*, whereas connected via VPN I get assigned 192.168.69.*.

However, I can't access any of our offices network resources! I can't see any of the computers on the domain, and I can't ping any of the computers, even though I know their IPs.

Can anyone shed some light on how I can get access to the internal resources?

The VPN is on a different subnet: Your wired connection gets you an IP of 192.168.0.*, but the VPN gets you 192.168.69.*. That third number is very important; usually everything is set with a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0, which limits you to connect to resources that match the first three numbers. Check with your IT people to see if you can change your mask to 255.255.0.0, which only requires the first two numbers to match. This may not be possible, depending on the VPN you're using.

Yep, I understand subnets and have that set up. I modified a machine in the office to have a VPN-like IP address and it can now see the internet, but not the internal network. I'll hassle the IT guys in work to sort it out.

Thanks.
